The McGregor Fund, a fully endowed Detroit-based grantmaking organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support its financial operations. This role will play a critical part in supporting investment accounting, financial reporting, and grant administration, ensuring that resources are effectively managed to advance the Fund's support for racial and economic justice focused work throughout Detroit.
This hybrid position offers remote work flexibility while requiring biweekly in-person collaboration and participation in quarterly board and committee meetings.

Key Responsibilities
Finance & Investment Accounting
Support the Director of Finance and Investments in investment accounting, including reconciliations, cash flow management, and reporting to the board and its committees.
Prepare financial reports, audits, and budgets to ensure compliance and transparency.
Assist with tax filings (990-PF, 990-T, K-1 reconciliation) and regulatory reporting.
Manage accounts payable, general and administrative payments, and grant disbursements using an electronic platform.
Grants Administration
Coordinate grant payment schedules to ensure timely and accurate disbursements.
Develop grant commitment and payable reports to track funding allocations.
General Administration & IT Support
Assist with IT system support, hardware management, and vendor coordination.
Support Investment and Audit Committee meetings with financial data and insights.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
- Five or more years of experience in accounting, tax, or finance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and accounting software)
- A flexible team player willing to support colleagues on a small team, as needed
- Strong critical thinking, organization, and time management skills
- Interest in social impact—particularly in Detroit
- Ability to work autonomously and remotely while attending required in-person meetings
Preferred:
- Experience with QuickBooks and Bill.com.
- Background in public accounting, audit, investment accounting, or nonprofit finance.
