The Joe Louis Greenway Partnership (JLGP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to activating and enhancing public spaces along the 29-mile Joe Louis Greenway, is seeking a Programming and Partnership Manager to lead the development, execution, and growth of community-driven programs.
This position plays a key role in ensuring that the Joe Louis Greenway and other public spaces remain accessible, welcoming, and beneficial to the community. Through thoughtful programming, strategic partnerships, and meaningful community engagement, the selected candidate will help activate these spaces, ensuring they serve as valuable gathering places for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Program Oversight and Public Space Activation
- Develop and implement community-driven programs and initiatives that align with the Joe Louis Greenway Partnership’s mission.
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of community events, workshops, and engagement activities.
- Work with residents and stakeholders to introduce placemaking initiatives that enhance public spaces and reflect community needs.
- Support the development of youth and family programs, including after-school and summer initiatives, ensuring they are accessible and impactful.
- Track program success using metrics, community feedback, and budget oversight.
- Supervise the Public Space Program Coordinator and other program staff.
Partnership Development and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to enhance programming.
- Identify and secure new partnership opportunities to expand public space initiatives.
- Facilitate collaborative decision-making processes with stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.
- Represent the organization at public meetings, conferences, and networking events to strengthen partnerships and raise awareness.
Community Engagement and Volunteer Management
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies that encourage public participation and ensure broad community input.
- Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and outreach efforts.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for events, in-kind donations, and community initiatives.
- Track volunteer participation and implement recognition programs to foster long-term engagement.
Event Planning and Execution
- Oversee the planning and execution of community events, educational programs, and cultural activities.
- Manage event logistics, including staffing, vendor coordination, and budget management.
- Work with residents to design and pilot placemaking and cultural events that enhance public spaces.
- Manage and support the Bethany Hill Place Community Garden.
Fundraising and Grant Management
- Assist with the development of grant proposals and fundraising strategies to support programming and community initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements and program funding guidelines.
- Identify and pursue corporate sponsorships and community fundraising opportunities.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in program management, event planning, or community development, preferably in the nonprofit or public space sector
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, sponsors, and public agencies
- Experience managing program budgets, grants, and fundraising efforts
- Strong project management skills with a history of delivering impactful community programs
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, based on event and program needs
- Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, nonprofit management, event management, public administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Familiarity with Detroit’s neighborhoods and communities is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and eligibility to drive a company vehicle
