Position Overview
Business Leaders For Michigan seeks a strategic and analytically-minded Associate, Public Policy & Strategic Initiatives to play a critical role in advancing Business Leaders For Michigan’s priorities through strategic analysis, policy development, and project execution. Working closely with the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and other members of the team, the Public Policy & Strategic Initiatives Associate will manage research, report development, and initiative implementation projects across the organization’s focus areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis & Insights: Conduct rigorous research and analysis to identify trends and develop actionable insights that inform strategic decisions
- Policy Development: Support the formulation of data-driven policy recommendations that align with organizational priorities
- Project Management: Lead and coordinate cross-functional initiatives from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
- Stakeholder Engagement: Support outreach and engagement with business leaders, policymakers, and subject matter experts to build coalitions and advance key initiatives
- Reporting & Communication: Create compelling presentations, dashboards, and written reports that convey findings to internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
This position is ideal for a strategic, analytically-minded professional with two to three years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or policy research. The selected candidate will be comfortable navigating multi-stakeholder environments and motivated by the opportunity to influence public policy and economic progress in Michigan.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to connect data to strategic context
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages for executive and policymaker audiences
- Proven organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel) and data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain relationships across sectors
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, business, political science, data analytics, or a related field
- 2–3 years of professional experience in a top-tier consulting firm, think tank, or corporate strategy team
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and delivering results in complex, fast-paced environments
- Familiarity with public policy issues related to economic development, talent, or education is strongly preferred
- Passion for creating systemic impact through data-informed policy and strategic collaboration
